Bollywood in love with Wroclaw

"Indian film-makers simply fell in love with Lower Silesia's castles and palaces," says Rafał Bubnicki, Odra-Film's Deputy Director. "They are extremely keen to shoot their films in Wroclaw and Lower Silesia".

Odra-Film receives quite a lot of enquiries from Bollywood producers who seek to shoot their films in Lower Silesia. "Two Indian productions were made last year in the region. Indian film-makers made a feature film in Książ and an action TV series in Ostrów Tumski and Srebrna Góra," says Rafał Bubnicki.

Film-makers from Madras are in turn planning to shoot their films in Wroclaw this year. "Film producers are particularly interested in locations such as castles, palaces, Lubiąż Abbey, the Churches of Peace in Jawor and Świdnica and the fortress in Srebrna Góra," says Rafał Bubnicki.

It is now a tradition that film-makers venture into Lower Silesia to seek post-Communist settings and abandoned post-Soviet buildings and airfields. "The shoots for two new American productions are going to start soon in Lower Silesia but I can't let you in on any details," adds Rafał Bubnicki.

It is also known that the shoots for a new film by Agnieszka Holland are going to start this year. The picture is based on Olga Tokarczuk's "Drive Your Plough Over the Bones of the Dead." The shoots for "The Kill" are going to take place in the Kłodzko Valley, in locations such as Nowa Ruda. The main protagonist, Janina Duszejko, a retired teacher and animal rights defender, wages a private war against hunters and illegal poachers. The main theme of the book focuses on mysteriously deceased hunters, who are allegedly killed in revenge by animals. "The kill" marks the end of the hunt when hunted animals are displayed one by one on the ground. The film by Holland is an international production. The shoots are going to start this year in the summer while the première is scheduled for the beginning of 2017.
