- "We have just completed the demolition stage. And we are now about to finish the concrete work. We are also moving to dismantle sanitary installations. Everything goes according to schedule," says Andrzej Mizgała, Site Manager from BOR-BUD.
It is easy to see how much work is involved in the reconstruction of Bar Barbara. The entire building was stripped down to its bare walls. Additionally, 26 reinforced concrete poles were installed. The building's interior will resemble its original design created by Anna and Jerzy Tarnawski. Designers decided to recreate the iconic columns with square mosaic designs. The interior will be completed with materials that were popular in the building's heyday, such as terrazzo floors.
"We are now moving to add finishing touches to the project. This includes plasters and floors. After reconstruction, the building will be extended with several open spaces. Interestingly enough, this also includes a bar," adds Andrzej Mizgała.
Once it has been renovated, the building will house the Head Office of the European Capital of Culture Wroclaw 2016. The work is being carried out by BOR-BUD Sp. z o.o. [JSC]. The cost of the investment is estimated at 4 million PLN. The building will primarily serve administrative purposes, but the former bar space will be used as a venue for exhibitions, concerts, workshops and meetings with artists, and there will also be a bookshop.
