All Pesa trams now in Wroclaw

All Pesa trams ordered by the city are now in Wroclaw. Most of the trams, six to be precise, are already serving the passengers. The remaining two are now being prepared for service.

Pesa Twist No. seven and eight entered Depot No. 1 in ul. Kamienna this weekend. These are the last two trains to be provided as part of the contract between Pesa Bydgoszcz and MPK Wroclaw. Let us have a brief overview. MPK has bought 8 trams from Pesa. The vehicles are air-conditioned and suitable for persons with disabilities. They offer a number of facilities and technical solutions that were custom-made specially for MPK Wroclaw. The front of the carriage was designed, in case of an accident, to reduce the impact on the victim and prevent dragging the victim underneath the carriage. Passengers entering or leaving the vehicle will also be assisted with specially-lit strips to guide them after dark. The inside of the carriage is fitted out with USB chargers and the fragrance system. The vehicle is 30 metres in length and has a capacity of ca. 300 people. First Pesa trams, which have been providing regular service since August. are already popular with passengers. "They are more silent that old trams. Seats offer more comfort and, what is more, they still look and smell like brand new", said Justyna Staszak in August during her journey on a new Pesa from Pilczyce to the city centre.

With MPK fitting out the two remaining trams at the moment, the vehicles are expected to enter service even this month.

However, more new trams are going to be delivered this year. MPK has ordered six new vehicles (with a possibility to extend the order) from Modertrans, and first carriages are expected to arrive before Christmas.

"New Moderus trams are going to replace older Konstal 105 Na vehicles. Before they enter the tracks, they must be fitted out with all the systems we use at MPK. We also need to train the drivers", says MPK Wroclaw Spokesperson Agnieszka Korzeniowska. MPK paid 23 million PLN net for the trams. "The trams are partially suited to the needs of disabled persons, but their solutions, technology and sub-assemblies are on a par with Pesa trams. And they cost only half their price", adds Agnieszka Korzeniowska.

Modertrans vehicles are expected to enter service at the beginning of 2016.
