2nd International Festival of Children’s Theatres

For five days, the youngest spectators can watch performances of theatres from the Netherlands, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland, including two premiere performances. The International Festival of Children’s Theatres will take place as a part of the European Capital of Culture 2016 programme from the 24th till the 28th of September. Tickets are already on sale.

”We want to treat our young audience seriously and as equal partners, so we don’t expect children to watch the performance in silence and with concentration,” says Wiktor Wiktorczyk, the originator and the artistic director of the Festival, the founder of the Wroclaw Children’s Theatre and the Director of the Klinika Lalek Theatre. “Bursts of laughter, squeals of joy and sighs of horror coming from the audience are not only normal, but also welcome in our theatre!”

After the success of the first edition of the Festival, the organisers invite young spectators to visit the theatre and have fun together.

”For each child, a visit to the theatre is an adventure and an opportunity to build new sensory experiences that are so important from the perspective of contemporary knowledge of the development of small children. The theatre inspires imagination and introduces young spectators to the concepts of good and evil, friendship and love. Allowing children to come into tangible contact with characters on stage and blurring the border between fiction and reality, it helps to shape their sensitivity. Therefore, we should acquaint children with the theatre as early as possible,” assert the organisers.

The programme of the festival includes performances of puppet theatres, improvisational theatres, image theatres and acoustic performances. Fairylike stage designs, mysterious spaces, fantastic characters and, of course, clowns will certainly be present! Other outstanding features of this event will be performances addressed to the youngest spectators – 2-year-olds and 3-year-olds, who are often excluded from participation in culture.

Tickets for performances are on sale from the 2nd of September.
